a quick overview
Acknowledged today as one of the greatest painters of the Dutch Golden Age, Vermeer is known for his extraordinary use of light in common interior scenes of middle-class life. Although he was modestly appreciated as a genre painter during his lifetime, his talent was not truly recognized until nearly two centuries after his death. Today, he is renowned as a leader and revolutionary of the Baroque era.
